A Celebration of Land and Craft
We escaped to Healdsburg late Thursday night, settling into Hotel Healdsburg just in time to rest up for what would become an unforgettable weekend. Friday morning began leisurely—coffee and breakfast from Black Oak Coffee Roasters enjoyed in the park, the perfect way to ease into wine country time. The morning was spent working (even on getaways, deadlines don't disappear), with a break for lunch at Pizzando. While Kalob continued working, I took the afternoon to wander, shop, and capture the town through my lens.
That evening, we met our friends at the Bubble Bar downtown—because what better way to kick off a culinary weekend than with champagne? Dinner at Bistro Lagniappe followed, setting the tone for the incredible food experiences ahead.
Saturday brought the main event: the inaugural FieldNotes at Single Thread Farms. My friend and I chose the Botanical Beauty workshop in the morning, immersing ourselves in the artistry of botanicals in skin care, while Kalob and his friend dove into oyster shucking. The afternoon workshops had us splitting again—the girls exploring ceramics while the guys crafted cocktails in the Garden to Glass session. Each workshop felt intimate and inspiring, a chance to learn directly from the people who shape Northern California's renowned culinary landscape.
But perhaps the most memorable part was simply being on the farm itself—walking through the gardens where Single Thread sources their ingredients, seeing firsthand the connection between land and plate. The thoughtfulness, the care, the intention behind every element was palpable.
When lunchtime came, we all gathered for a beautiful meal hosted by Single Thread. Properly stuffed and content, the girls wandered through the maker's marketplace, discovering treasures from local artisans and producers. We made the decision to leave before the afternoon panel discussions, choosing instead to spend time together as a group before heading home.
FieldNotes was everything we'd hoped for—a celebration of craft, connection, and the abundance of the season. To be part of the very first one felt special, witnessing Single Thread expand their vision beyond the restaurant to create a gathering place for ideas, hands-on learning, and genuine community. Already looking forward to next year.
