A Farewell Feast Worth the Journey
Sometimes timing is everything — and sometimes it's absolutely terrible. Our recent dinner adventure was definitely the latter, in the most beautiful way possible. Our foodie friends had been raving about this incredible restaurant. A Texas-born chef who elevated everything while staying true to his roots.
The Last Weekend
We snagged a table for that final weekend, and it was everything our friends had promised. Every dish was perfection. The chef even came over to chat, and that's when he mentioned something special — a series of intimate pop-up dinners for just 10 guests each, hosted at a farm in Inverness. We didn't hesitate. Yes, absolutely yes.
An Evening on the Farm
The drive gave us time to build anticipation (and wonder if we were crazy for driving this far for dinner). But sometimes the best experiences require a little effort.
Ten of us around one table, feeling more like dinner party guests than restaurant patrons. The chef and his team prepared all 10 courses right in front of us. Watching every plate come together, asking questions between courses, understanding the thought behind each dish. The wine pairings were perfect too.
What made it truly special wasn't just the incredible food (though every course was phenomenal). It was the intimacy. Getting to chat with the chef, hearing stories behind the dishes, watching the kitchen choreography up close. Our friends were glowing the entire evening, and I completely understood why this chef's work meant so much to them.
Perfect Timing After All
A long ride home, slightly wine-buzzed and definitely full, we kept talking about how perfect it all was. Sometimes terrible timing turns into perfect timing after all. Definitely one of those experiences that reminds you why it's worth seeking out the special places and passionate people — even if it means driving three hours for dinner.
